If you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10.9

Becoming a Christian is the most amazing and life changing thing a person can ever experience, and as simple as accepting the free gift of God’s love in Jesus Christ. If you would like to give your life to Christ and become a follower of the Lord Jesus, then here are some simple steps.

1. Trust Jesus

Jesus said: The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who rejects the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him. John 3.36

A Christian is someone who has put their trust in Jesus and lives by depending on him as saviour and lord. This is what the Bible means by faith – it is to believe in Jesus’ death and resurrection, to rely on Jesus as rescuer, and submit to him as Lord and King.

2. Talk to God

Praying is talking to God. To become a Christian you can express your trust by simply asking him for his free gift of forgiveness. You might like to use the words of this prayer:

Dear God,

I know that I am not worthy to be accepted by you. I don’t deserve your gift of eternal life. I am guilty of rebelling against you and ignoring you. I need forgiveness. Thank you for sending your son to die for me that I may be forgiven. Thank you that he rose from the dead to give me new life. Please forgive me and change me that I might live with Jesus as my ruler. Amen

You may feel different or you may not, but the moment you trust in Jesus you are truly saved forever!

3. Receive the Holy Spirit

Becoming a Christian is as easy as receiving God’s free gift. Being a Christian is not about what we have to do for God, but about what he has done for us in Jesus Christ. When you believe in Jesus Christ, the gift of God is the Holy Spirit living in us, bringing forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and the assurance of salvation. They are ours for free!

The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6.23

  • With God by reading the Bible and praying
  • With God’s people, by gathering with fellow Christians to learn and serve and worship God together at church

If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has passed away and see the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5.17

  • Living under the kingship of Jesus will change the way we live, and the way we think about relationships, money and the future
  • Jesus frees us from guilt, doubt and fear, and we serve him filled with hope for our eternal future

  • We all start as baby Christians and need to mature and grow in knowledge and strength, so hang in there and keep going!
  • God’s work in us is to work in everything to make us more and more like his son Jesus Christ
