Local Community – High Schools

Steve Barnett – Christian Youth Worker Northmead High School

Steve’s challenge is to communicate the Gospel to the students and staff of Northmead High through words and actions. He seeks to do this via regular Scripture lessons, running a lunchtime Christian group, Bible study groups, student breakfasts, casual conversations and generally by being a conspicuous Christian presence at the school. Relationships are fostered through involvement in camps and excursions, sport, the welfare team and extra-curricular programs such as Peer Support, student mentoring and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Central to the work at Northmead High is “The Office”, a room where students (and staff) can hang around and chat during recess, lunchtime and free periods.

Matt Daly – Scripture Teacher Model Farms High School

Hi I’m Matt Daly, I work full time at Model Farms High. I am married to Jen and we have a beautiful daughter Lilliana, and twins Tristan and Emily.

I am enjoying bringing the gospel to the students. I love football (soccer) and the outdoors and camping. I go to St Johns Wilberforce church which is near Windsor and I live in Richmond (despite what the students say it isn’t really that far away!) Come by and visit Model Farms, especially on Friday lunch to watch our awesome students lead MAD.

LISA Massey – Christian Education Worker Parramatta High School

I’m Lisa Massey and I’ve been ministering at Parramatta High School part-time, since June 2010 and have been assisted by Chris Petschack 1 day per week since the beginning of 2011. I’m married to Andrew and we go to Epping Baptist Church.

Parramatta High is an acutely multicultural school, with 85% of students coming from non-English speaking backgrounds. However, God is not bound by race and culture and has been doing some great things at Parramatta High School. We have seen Him work through Bible Study groups, Scripture lessons, seminars, casual interactions over breakfast, during sport and at lunchtimes and through welfare programs at the school. I’m very thankful for the opportunities that arise and continue to pray we use them well. As we encourage students to connect with God and interact positively with those around them.

Chris Petschack – Christian Education Worker Parramatta High School

I’m Chris Petschack and I work part time at Parramatta High School with Lisa. I have grown up in Sydney and go to Epping Baptist Church where I have gone my whole life. I am currently studying Primary Education at Macquarie University and hope to in the future go into further Theological Training. I feel God has called me to youth ministry and am loving the time I get to spend at PHS ministering to the students there.

My time at PHS involves a variety of things but mainly running bible studies, co-teaching Scripture and mentoring/pastoral care. It is a great time where I get to share my faith with students at school through relationship building and showing the love that God has for the students.
